Tormenting Friday

Hey,
Been a real long day.At the onset had a math class from 8.30 till 10.Man, was really terrible with the calculations we have in it ,the formulas are simple in this paper but the arithmetic part goes on and on need to be on your toes to get the right answers. Then we were supposed to go to laboratory for soil mechanics to understand the theoretical stuff but we had an inaugural function for the opening of CENTRE FOR CLIMATE CHANGE AND ADAPTION RESEARCH the first in INDIA.It was attended by Nobel laureate R K PACHAURI ,Minister for Higher Education ,MP Kanimozhi and other dignitaries. It was for 2 hours and I was waiting for it to end.
Then we had a very short time for our lunch (just 20 minutes) and had no idea that my worst was yet to come.We had astronomical surveying for nearly 1 and a half hours and what I could do was just to take notes without understanding a thing. There was zenith then celestial horizon , co- latitude etc etc.... going on.Then we went for our lab which was well equipped with machines and instruments but there was no proper ventilation. With about 60 students in a 3 * 4 meter room and no proper exhausts it was suffocating. For nearly 90 minutes we had to undergo this ordeal yet there were some who were enquiring about machine's working and there were those who stayed outside to escape the ordeal but many were like me who couldn't do a thing but just left to stay in that room and learning nothing.
It was an experience worth a post in my blog and may be help me face situations when i go to work for a construction company. These are the only golden lines of what otherwise an pretty ordinary one with an exception of me getting two cool pictures of 300 and Ocean's 13.
But I salute our teacher who needn't have taken us there to the lab and not only that but painstakingly explained.

Gotta watch those movies.....cya in the next post

10000 B.C

Plot: When the tribe is attacked, the caveman D'Leh (Steven Strait) has to venture into the unknown to rescue his true love, Evolet (Camilla Belle), and his other tribesmen, who've been enslaved by a clan of mysterious marauders . Along the way he'll have to face saber toothed tigers, wholly mammoths, and giant mutant ostriches

Review:Not so interesting! I guess Roland Emmerich must have liked APOCALYPTO because he's just remade it! Seriously- if you take APOCALYPTO, replace the Myans with cavemen, take out all the violence and make the characters speak English- you've got 10,000 B.C.

Ok- maybe I'm not being fair here. 10,000 B.C. was probably already in production by the time APOCALYPTO came out. The film was originally slated for a Summer 07 release, but the date was shuffled after 300 opened to box office at this time last year, and the crafty execs probably thought they had another 300 in their hands with this film. Sadly- this film is no 300. Which brings me to the biggest difference between APOCALYPTO & 10,000 B.C. APOCALYPTO was good, 10,000 B.C. is not.

There are so many problems with this film that I hardly know where to begin. There haven't been a lot of good films made about cavemen over the years (with the exception of Jean-Jacques Annaud's QUEST FOR FIRE), and this is probably the goofiest caveman film to come along since the Ringo Starr vehicle CAVEMAN, from 1981.

One of the biggest problems with the film is the casting. Steven Strait and Camilla Belle are way too attractive to be playing credible cave people. Belle in particular, with her smooth skin and delicate features seems out of place. Twenty year old Strait does not fare much better- as he doesn't seem anywhere near weathered enough to be playing a caveman warrior. He also sports a dread lock haircut that looks way too fashionable for the era, and at one point he even shows up with the hair pulled back into a ponytail! That's right folks- we get a prehistoric pony tail! I also didn't care for his artfully designed facial hair- which looked more first year college student than ancient warrior.

Another big problem is the script, which Emmerich co wrote with Harald Kloser- who also wrote the musical score. Kloser's bombastic score is actually not bad at all, but the script is absolutely atrocious. Omar Sharif is on hand to provide some incredibly clunky narration- which serves no purpose whatsoever, but might be good for a few unintentional laughs. The anachronistic dialogue doesn't fare much better. These cavemen have a pretty vast vocabulary, and at times they even manage to toss off a couple of one liners (when a tribesman says D'Leh looks a little young to be leading a battle, he responds with a smirk "I'm older than I look" ) Seriously- at times it was like watching a feature length Geico commercial- although the Geico cavemen look more realistic.

Now I know some will think I'm being way too hard on 10,000 B.C. After all- it is a Roland Emmerich movie. Isn't it supposed to be cheesy? I have nothing against Emmerich- I've enjoyed most of his films, but when he's bad- he's BAD. Take GODZILLA- which I think is the worst film of the 1990's. Is there anyone out there that actually enjoyed that film? Thankfully, 10,000 B.C. is not quite as bad as GODZILLA, but it's not as stupidly entertaining as INDEPENDENCE DAY or even THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW. Even when Emmerich films are bad, you can usually at least sit back and enjoy the eye candy, but even the special FX come up short in this film. The CGI saber tooth tigers, and wholly mammoths look extremely fake , and the killer mutant ostriches- well, the less said about them, the better.

Skip it.

Post Match Analysis

What a match, first half was electrifying with Liverpool having majority of the possession initally . But they could'nt break into the ManU defense. Out of nowhere came Wes Brown with a smart move by heading (elbowing) to the goal from Rooney's cross.Pepe Reina (Liv goalie) was pretty ordinary in the field.

Then Mascherno was sent off for showing dissent after picking a 2nd yellow card, first one was due to a sliding tackle on Scholes .Afterwhich there was no looking back for ManU.Ronaldo missed many chances but was still able to net in from a Nani corner who added the 3rd few minutes later with a superb one-two combination with Rooney.

Giggs and Anderson were substituted for Nani and Tevez in the second half.Rooney was unlucky not to have scored one eventhough he had many half chances.

Gerrard was moved to holding midfield after the sending off of Mascherno which decreased the attcking power of Liverpool.Babel was substituted for Benayoun who also couldnt contribute match.Earlier Liverpool were lucky to have escaped a penalty appeal when Carragher trippes Rooney inside the box.

As such ManU were the superior team for vast stretches and the wonderboy Torres couldnt stop another derby defeat at the hands of their rivals ManU.

At the end it was the Red Devils who had the last laugh

Final Score Man U 3 - 0 Liv

Goal Scorers : Wes Brown
Cristiano Ronaldo
Nani

Earth Hour

Hey,
U know what earth hour is?I just heard it from my friend the other day and was like complete blank about this. Then I just refered it in the net and came to know about it.I just want u folks to know about this as this is our planet and must do something to preserve it.

Earth Hour is an event wherein all the electrical appliances are switched off for an hour by the households and various industries to reduce carbon emissions organised by WWF Australia , Sydney Morning Herald ( a newspaper) on Mrach 29 , 2007 .Energy Australia a local utility reported a decrease in energy consumption of about 10% during that hour than it would be in an hour with the same type of weather. This can be equated as that of about approx. 50,000 cars being taken off the road at that hour (Source : Sydney Morning Herald).

But this has its own disadvantages.according to an analysis at University Of Chicago it has been stated that the drop was only about 2.10% after taking into account all the factors.
Not only this but in a way to support this event there can be over utilisiation of power before and after this hour. And although the cut in carbon emissions can be equated with about 50,ooo cars for an hour this value however is comparable to about 6 cars taken off the road in an year.

Hence this can only be a way of raising awarness to others and an answer to solve the case of global warming.

This is going to take place on 29th March this year in over 25 cities 175,985 people taken part till now.

Let us all join and preserve our earth.

RACE review

Director: Abbas-Mustan
Cast: Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Bipasha Basu, Katrina Kaif, Anil Kapoor
Rating : Just

The movie is between two step-brothers and the plot is devised on the undying life-insurance money maneuver. One brother’s murder is other brother’s bonanza. And each one is set to outdo the other. But in this film, the makers attempt to overtake your sensibilities. Check this out - in knocking off the elder brother (Saif), the younger (Akshaye) goes out of his way to manipulate a marriage with a con-girl (Bipasha), just so that he could use his spouse to push big brother off a high-rise. Seems like Abbas-Mustan haven’t upgraded themselves ever since Baazigar days where SRK indulged in a similar act. And you don’t have to be an Ekta Kapoor soap consumer to estimate that if one of the main leads is eliminated by the interval, he will come back from the dead in the climax.

Subsequently the film resorts to the trademark tricks to induce thrills. But for someone fed (or fed up) on a staple diet of Abbas-Mustan suspense dramas, it isn’t much difficult to predict at what instance will the director-duo double cross. The perceptive viewer races ahead of the director’s shock-treatment tactics and isn’t duped. After all, the scheme of one-upmanship between two male rivals has been already exploited by the directors to the point of diminishing returns in Ajnabee, Humraaz and Naqaab.

There’s also a Karamchand kinda investigating officer (Anil Kapoor) who substitutes the detective’s carrot by chomping fruitlessly to glory. This Karamchand also has Kitty (Sameera Reddy) for company who isn’t just silly and naïve but also stupid and irritating. En route their investigation, the officer also flirts with his simpleton secretary on Cape Town beaches as the film takes a preposterous excuse to exhibit bikinis.

Also the makers should understand that while shoving songs in the screenplay to induce some lighter moments, there has to be some tense instances in the thriller at the first place. Alas this one doesn’t take you to the edge-of-the-seat in anticipation but only makes you fall-off-the-chair with easy assumptions. Furthermore the directors take the title of the film a bit too seriously, adding a literal car chase in the climax which suffices for the formulaic action ending.

Technically, the action is outdated and camerawork inconsistent. However, the director-duo is smart enough to commercially camouflage the loopholes in the plot with a racy and rapacious end.

The performances are more cool than competent. Saif exudes a calm composure but this stubbly look is too ‘on-the-face’. Akshaye’s restricted to his traditional tweaking facial expressions.Bipasha Basu and Katrina Kaif are eye-candy. Anil Kapoor is over-the-top. Sameera Reddy is avidly avoidable.

How one wishes director brothers Abbas Mustan had shown more innovation and integrity in their attempts at dividing the step-brothers.

Race is reasonable enough to win a ‘not bad’ stamp. But isn’t imaginative enough to gain a ‘good’ tag.

BIG GAME 2

Arsenal Vs Chelsea Stamford Bridge

With only 2 points between the 2 sides this may well turnout to be a humdinger of a contest.

With the Arsene Wenger side looking for revival of fortunes after being held to 4 successive draws this may well be the match Arsenal fans are looking forward .With the likes of Toure , Fabergas (in pic.) and Adebayor ,it's going to be a visual treat for the fans . The side has received a shot in the arm with the inclusion of Theo Walcott into the provisional squad for the English friendly against French next week after debut dating back 2 years.

Grant’s team after slipping a 2 goal cushion against the Spurs for a 4-4 draw are staging a brave comeback after disappointing start to the season .With the likes Drogba (in pic.) , Joe Cole (who scored a brace against the Spurs) and Lampard they are never short of attacking options with the defense being taken care by skipper Terry, Alex, Belletti and A.Cole.

With only 8 matches remaining and the race for the title is getting fiercer and fiercer. This match will go down till the wire with the stat studded team lining up don’t miss the action on Sunday.

Watch out….

The BIG Game

Hey,

This is for all the football fans. Its going to be a big draw coming this sunday wen the FAB FOUR are up against each other. Here is a analysis of what the plan is to be

Manchester United Vs Liverpool : 19.00 hrs IST live @ Old Trafford
This is going to be a toughly fought game whe these 2 teams lock horns against each other.

For Liverpool ,the summer signing Fernando Torres (in picture) is living a life of
moment with back to back goals including a hat-trick.He is the leading goal scorer for Liverpool and can well go past the record for most number of goals by a player in debut in EPL.He's the man to watch for along with Liverpool captain and England international Steven Gerrard.Although another new signing Ryan Babel has been good while defender Skrtel has been impressive.

Player to watch for : Torres,Gerrard,Reina,Kuyt

For United they have goaling machine with Cristiano Ronaldo (in picture) who has scored 33 goals who just overtook compatriot George Best for scoring the maximum goals in a season for MANU.With the likes of many in-form players playing at home and also being on the top of the league standings with a 3 point cushion over rivals Arsenal it is going to be a bit easy.
Players to watch for :Ronaldo,Giggs,Rooney,Carrick,Vidic

But never count Liverpool with their fans ever loyal to them and with the kind of form in the Champions league Vs Inter, this match is surely going to be a nut-cracker.

Watch out for Arsenal Vs Chelsea post.

Grey Water Treatment

Hey folks,
One of the top priorities of the present world is to reduce global warming. Not for from it is is d hues n cries for water (huge shortages of water).According to a UN report it is believed tat about 18% of the population doesn't have access to fresh water. It is a well known fact tat v have very less amount of fresh water in the world, also desalination is a costly affair.

One of the ways to minimise our water wastage's through Grey Water Treatment.Any water that has been used in the home, except water from toilets, is called grey water.

Why use grey water?

It's a waste to irrigate with great quantities of drinking water when plants thrive on used water containing small bits of compost.Grey water reuse is a part of the fundamental solution to many existing ecological problems. The benefits of grey water recycling include:

  • Fresh water use is minimised
  • Less strain on treatment plants
  • Grey water treatment in topsoil is effective
  • Ability to build in areas unsuitable for conventional treatment
  • Less energy and chemical use
  • Groundwater recharge
  • Plant growth
  • Reclamation of otherwise wasted nutrients
Having mentioned its advantages some of the disadvantages are
  • It causes pollution and environmental effects if it's not reused effectively
  • Initial cost
All certain said for us water is vital come what may at any cost.Hence it is up to us all to take a pledge to minimise the wastage of fresh water.

Cheers !!!

1ssst blog

Hey frens,

Being ma 1st blog, am goin to write about football which is close to ma heart.Of all the league in the world it is the EPL which is most widely viewed and most popular and also ma favorites club is MANU.Hence i have decided to write about EPL and here is its history:

English Premier League

The English Premier League is the world’s most popular and most watched sporting league in the world with viewership of over half a billion in over 200 countries. Premier League (now known as Barclay’s Premier League due to sponsorship reasons) was started in the year 1992 in England with an intention of making English clubs more competitive in the European competition and to attract the best of talent in the world. Over the years more than 40 clubs have competed in Premier League. Initially 22 clubs were allowed to compete in the trophy later it was reduced to 20 clubs from 1995 owing to insistence by the FIFA (Federation Interrnationale de Football Association the international governing body of association football) to reduce the number of games played by the clubs in the domestic leagues. Only 4 clubs have won the cup in its history with reigning champions Manchester United having won the tile record 9 times others being Blackburn Rovers, Chelsea and Arsenal. The season kicks off at August and ends at May with each team playing 38 games each. At the end of every season bottom 3 clubs are relegated from the Premier League to the Football Championship (Football Championship is the level of football played below the premier league). The top 2 clubs get automatically promoted from the Championships to the Premier League while the third place is awarded to the winner of the play-offs involving 3rd – 6th placed clubs.

The top 4 teams in the Premier League get selected for the UEFA Champions League with the 3rd and 4th team having to go through the qualifiers to reach the group stage. The 5th place team gets selected to UEFA Cup with the chance of 6th and 7th place clubs getting selected depending on the other 2 domestic cup competitions namely FA Cup and League Cup.

The revenues for the clubs are through the sale of television rights and through the ticket sales. Merchandise revenues also form a significant part depending on the fan following. The clubs get an average of about £45 millions per year from ’07 till ’10 through the sale of television rights alone.

There are however a few problems which are to be addressed. There is a growing gap with the Premier League and the lower leagues. The promoted clubs find it difficult to compete with the already established Premier clubs who have higher revenues and hence find it difficult to avoid the relegation the very next season. Another being the dominance of the “Big Four” (Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool) in the Premier League who have secured between them all the Champions League places over the period of years and have received the benefit of qualification in terms of revenues and sponsorships leaving a disparity with the other clubs in the Premiership.

Scribbling to continue....
