1ssst blog

Hey frens,

Being ma 1st blog, am goin to write about football which is close to ma heart.Of all the league in the world it is the EPL which is most widely viewed and most popular and also ma favorites club is MANU.Hence i have decided to write about EPL and here is its history:

English Premier League

The English Premier League is the world’s most popular and most watched sporting league in the world with viewership of over half a billion in over 200 countries. Premier League (now known as Barclay’s Premier League due to sponsorship reasons) was started in the year 1992 in England with an intention of making English clubs more competitive in the European competition and to attract the best of talent in the world. Over the years more than 40 clubs have competed in Premier League. Initially 22 clubs were allowed to compete in the trophy later it was reduced to 20 clubs from 1995 owing to insistence by the FIFA (Federation Interrnationale de Football Association the international governing body of association football) to reduce the number of games played by the clubs in the domestic leagues. Only 4 clubs have won the cup in its history with reigning champions Manchester United having won the tile record 9 times others being Blackburn Rovers, Chelsea and Arsenal. The season kicks off at August and ends at May with each team playing 38 games each. At the end of every season bottom 3 clubs are relegated from the Premier League to the Football Championship (Football Championship is the level of football played below the premier league). The top 2 clubs get automatically promoted from the Championships to the Premier League while the third place is awarded to the winner of the play-offs involving 3rd – 6th placed clubs.

The top 4 teams in the Premier League get selected for the UEFA Champions League with the 3rd and 4th team having to go through the qualifiers to reach the group stage. The 5th place team gets selected to UEFA Cup with the chance of 6th and 7th place clubs getting selected depending on the other 2 domestic cup competitions namely FA Cup and League Cup.

The revenues for the clubs are through the sale of television rights and through the ticket sales. Merchandise revenues also form a significant part depending on the fan following. The clubs get an average of about £45 millions per year from ’07 till ’10 through the sale of television rights alone.

There are however a few problems which are to be addressed. There is a growing gap with the Premier League and the lower leagues. The promoted clubs find it difficult to compete with the already established Premier clubs who have higher revenues and hence find it difficult to avoid the relegation the very next season. Another being the dominance of the “Big Four” (Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool) in the Premier League who have secured between them all the Champions League places over the period of years and have received the benefit of qualification in terms of revenues and sponsorships leaving a disparity with the other clubs in the Premiership.

Scribbling to continue....

Bye
